Ephesians 6:10-12 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand when the time of testing comes. Our God has given us tools to remain safely anchored in Him. We all have had days or been through seasons when we felt like we were on a spiritual war zone. We faced one battle after another but came out on top. Having the full armor of God and knowing how to apply the word to whatever attack you are facing is important. When I started writing this word, I remembered when Jesus was in the wilderness; after He was baptized by John the Baptist the Holy Spirit took Him to the wilderness to be tempted (Matthew 4:1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil). The bible says the devil came and tempted Him but Jesus used the word which is the sword of the Spirit to counter every attack and defeated satan. (Matthew 4:2-11 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: ‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’ Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’ Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only. Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him).
Earlier this month, my daughter brought home a science project and I decided to leave it in a container in my bathroom with only water as its source of nutrients. I watched day after day as the beans grew taller and the roots spread on the paper towel but after a while, the leaves started turning yellow and the leaves felt so fragile and started dying. I didn’t throw it out then but each day, I’d spray some water of the roots and eventually it died. The stalks after a while could not stand straight but were bent. Throughout the whole process I kept thinking of the heart of a believer surviving without the nutrients that it needs to grow strong. If the enemy attacks when the believer’s heart is with not strengthened in the word, he could easily take over because that territory is not properly protected. Guard your heart. The sword of the spirit/ word of God is very powerful and knowing the word is very important. We need it, it is our daily Manna and it nourishes our spirit and we grow stronger as believers. A teacher in a course I was talking told the class that memorizing scripture and not knowing how to apply it is pointless. It’s one thing to memorize scripture but another to learn how to stand on the word of God. Jesus had fasted forty days and forty nights and he was hungry and maybe He was feeling weak physically but He was focused because He knew the word and the devil was defeated. Jesus had the full armor of God.
Having the full armor of God on should be a daily task for believers. You don’t know how or where the enemy will come from. He doesn’t announce himself until he pounces. There are times it catches one off-guard but when you have the armor of God you will not be unbalanced. You will stand firm, counter every attack with the word of God and the enemy will flee. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. (James 4:7)
Let the word be hidden in your heart, let it nurture your Spirit and be like an anchor to your soul and when the time testing comes, the enemy will not succeed in his plans. I’ve said this before; you never go to the battlefield without your battle gear. As a believer do not go about your life without prayer and the word of God.
~I will break this down and cover each topic: helmet of salvation, breastplate of righteousness, shield of faith, belt of truth, gospel of peace and sword of the spirit~ Remember to stay prayed up and put on the full armor of God. Jesus is your anchor and solid ground. Blessings.
